As a part of Government’s initiative, to build confidence & bring transparency in the working of the Income Tax Department, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has launched all new, revamped, and updated websites; viz. www.incometaxindia.gov.in. The Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Nitin Gupta launched the revamped website in an event that was held at the ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Udaipur.

One should not confuse the new home page of the upgraded website with the e-filing website (www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/) used for filing returns & various forms. It is the national website of the Income Tax Department and can be used to get knowledge about various income tax laws and information about various related income tax services.

CBDT’s focus is to educate taxpayer and bring in benefits to the taxpayers and professionals. The website’s user-friendly interface and simplified navigation would make it easy to locate tax forms, sections, and information, resulting in reduced time and effort in understanding and filing taxes.

Thanks to the increased functionality, definitely some efforts have been made in revamping the website, whereby the new features let users compare Acts, Sections, Rules, and Tax treaties without any difficulty. Content is tagged with Income Tax sections for easy navigation. Also, pertinent material on the website has been tagged with distinct Income Tax categories, making it easier for customers to navigate.

Below are the Prominent Features of the Revamped Website that are Beneficial to Taxpayers:

  1. Mega Menu, with guided virtual tours and clear signs for the new buttons to guarantee that website users quickly get comfortable with the new upgrades.
  2. Dynamic Due Date Functionality, that provides reverse countdowns, tool tips, and links to relevant portals for easy tax compliance.
  3. A Single Dashboard, where all interactions and uploads or pending actions will be displayed in a single frame indicating follow-up actions for the taxpayer.
  4. Site, offers the option to print or email the relevant portions of the law directly without having to open the relevant law web page first.
  5. Tax Per Service Module, featuring various tax tools to assist taxpayers in filing their income tax returns.
  6. Easier Access, to all the direct tax laws, including Income Tax Act and other allied acts, rules, circulars, and notifications.

Due credit should be given for the right intention & continuing efforts being put in to bring about transparency with such user-friendly measures on the home page of the Income Tax Department i.e., www.incometaxindia.gov.in.

There is another portal www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ which is used for filing returns, rectifications, grievances, appeals, various forms and making submissions. Similar effort needs to be put into revamping & removing technical glitches on this e-filing website as well.

This would go a long way and help the Government in bringing transparency & confidence amongst the taxpayers, which we believe is their aim.
